Borderline Camera Club, Bellingham, Washington

Photographer: Jim Steadman

All photos made with black and white infrared film, with red filter, rated at ISO 200. Metered without red filter with no compensation for the filter. Best results gained by bracketing widely.

With infrared film, plants will turn white; sky is rendered very dark. A high contrast, grainy image will result if a red filter is used. Backlit subjects will have a wrap-around halo.

Use a small aperture—F11 or F16–since the focus is not the same as with other films. During mid-day, under full sun, infrared light is at its height.
